How To Use Salvia

How To Use Salvia
Salvia is never taken by injection. There are many different methods of use. Several will be discussed here.

Let's take a look, there's:

  • Salvia Leaf
  • Standardized Salvia Extracts
  • Salvia Extracts
  • Liquid Tinctures
  • Salvia Plants
  • Quid chewing

Salvia Leaf: is just the plain dried leaf of the Salvia Divinorum plant, and a great place to start if your new to smoking salvia. It contains about 4mg of salvinorin a per gram. You can Find this at www.herbal-x.com

Standardized Salvia Extracts: are created to be at an exact potency and strength. They contain as many times the amount of salvinorin a per the number of the extract. So 1 gram of Salvia 5x extract would contain 5 times the amount salvinorin a, in just 1 gram of leaf. So that would be 20mg as opposed to 4mg. These are usually Stronger extracts like the ones provided by Salvia-x

Salvia Extracts: "The difference between the standardized and non-standardized extracts is that the standardized extracts have an exact amount of Salvinorin A put back on the leaf, while the non-standardized ones can fluctuate a bit. They're both good quality. The standardized is just EXACTLY the same every time. For the money, the non-standardized is the better value. Buy Salvia extract at Herbal-x"

Salvia Quid chewing The traditional method of chewing the leaves has continued in modern use. However, salvinorin A is generally considered to be inactive when orally ingested, as salvinorin A is effectively deactivated by the gastrointestinal system.[76] Therefore, in what's understood to be a modern innovation, the 'quid' of leaves is held in the mouth as long as possible in order to facilitate absorption of the active constituents through the oral mucosa.[41] 'Quid' refers to the fact that at the end of this method the user spits out the leaves rather than swallowing them because ingesting the leaves has no known effect. Chewing consumes more of the plant than smoking, and produces a longer-lasting experience.

Modern methods

1/2 g. of 20x S. divinorum extract. Salvia divinorum is becoming more widely known and used in modern culture. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health, an annual US based survey sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), for 2006 estimated that about 1.8 million persons aged 12 or older had used Salvia divinorum in their lifetime, of which approximately 750,000 had done so in that year. The following year, 2007, saw the annual figure rise from 750,000 to 1 million US users.

Salvia Tintures: Are a pure grain alcohol extraction of Salvinorin A. Az-maddoc makes these and they contain 1.5 mg of salvinorin a, per Ml. Az-maddoc recommends 3-7 dropperfuls at a time, depending on the strength users wish to experiance. Az-maddoc's Salvia Tincture can be bought Here! Click Salvia Tinctures at the top.

TRADITIONAL MAZATEC METHODS

The two traditional Mazatec methods are quite inefficient in that they require many more leaves than do the other methods. But they are very safe. Traditionally the leaves are taken in a semi-darkened room as part of a healing or religious ceremony. At least one sober person is present to watch over the people who have taken Salvia. A water-based drink made from ground-up fresh leaves is one of the traditional Mazatec ways of using this herb. It requires a lot of leaves and tastes somewhat unpleasant, so this method is seldom used by non-Mazatecs. Salvinorin is very poorly absorbed from the stomach so it requires enormous amounts of leaves to make the drink effective. But it does work, and the effects last longer than from any other method. Chewing and swallowing a large number of fresh leaves is the other Mazatec method. When this is done the leaves are nibbled slowly for about 1/2 hour. Although the chewed-up leaves are swallowed, most of the effect is due to salvinorin that is absorbed through the tissues of the mouth during the chewing. This is a less efficient way of chewing Salvia than the quid method (see below). Most people find chewing and swallowing fresh leaves to be unpleasantly bitter, and for some, it causes gagging.
